Healing is a Choice Offered on Monday Nights

Pine Lake Covenant Church has some exciting news for everyone.  Starting October 2, 2017 and continuing until December, we will be meeting every Monday night from 7:00 to 8:30 to receive God’s healing through a book study.  We will be using Steve Arturburn’s book called Healing is a Choice.

The power to heal—physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually—is in God’s hands. But the choice to be healed is yours. Everyone, at some level, needs healing. You may have prayed for healing many times, for many years. Perhaps you have lived with your brokenness so long that you have become accustomed to it. Maybe you wonder just when God is going to take all the hurt away.

He can. But you also must choose to let the hurt go and let the healing begin.

In Healing Is a Choice, author Stephen Arterburn offers a unique combination of book and workbook, outlining ten choices crucial to receiving healing. Embracing these choices means rejecting the lies we often tell ourselves. These are not hoops God requires you to jump through to earn your miracle; they form, instead, the journey He desires for you. He can—and will—walk with you. But you must put one foot in front of the other and choose to let the hurt go and let the healing begin.

His Word affirms that God wants us to experience His healing, but many times we make choices that stand in the way. Healing Is a Choice is a helpful resource that lays out the path of healing God’s way.

This 10-week class will meet in the lower level of the Family Life Center (same location as Celebrate Recovery). This book study temporarily replaces the men’s accountability group. Healing is a Choice will use video lessons and provide individual small groups for men and women.

Do you want to get well? We invite you to join us on October 2 and see how this journey can help you. For more information email us at crontheplateau@gmail.com.

PLCC CR Announces Ministry Changes for 2017

cr-open-letter-banner

Dear Pine Lake CR Community,

I write to share with you some news concerning our CR ministry at Pine Lake Covenant Church.  This ministry started nearly eight years ago, and we are so grateful for the work Jesus has done in the life of each person who has joined us, whether for a few weeks or for several years.

Our attendance has been dwindling over recent months. Our leadership team has decided that it is best that we place a short term hold on the ministry.  We have decided that, effective immediately, we will end our formal Monday night program.

We will host an open men’s accountability group on Mondays at 7:00 PM for those who are interested.  However, there will be no formal worship, program, lesson or testimony or women’s group.  The men’s accountability group will not meet on Monday holidays.

We ask that you lift this ministry up in prayer.  We hope that in the future, perhaps 9 to 12 months from now, we can re-launch a revitalized CR ministry at PLCC.

We also invite you to mark Monday, January 30, 2017 on your calendar.  We will gather again to have a night of celebration for the wonderful things that have occurred during the 8 years CR has been meeting at PLCC

The event will include a catered meal starting at 6 PM, followed by live music (a return of our beloved Rag Band) at 7 PM, and a celebratory program.

Thank you for your participation, support, and prayers.

If you have any questions, or suggestions, please send an email to crontheplateau@gmail.com.  Also, please share this announcement with any of your friends that you know have joined us over the years.

Attached is a list of other local CR meeting to help you find another ministry close to you.

May God bless your continuing journey of recovery.

CR Mission Partners with Harvesters in Spain

The host church for the CR seminar in Rivas.

The host church for the CR seminar in Rivas.

My mind is flooded with memories of Spain.  It’s not just because this week marks the two-year anniversary of the CR mission to Spain.  It’s because of a recent development in Spain as a result of the mission.  It gets me (Ardis Nelson) all goose-bumpy to share the Good News!

As the one-year anniversary rolled around last year, I wrote a post, CR Mission Update & Partnership Opportunities.  In that 2015 post, I shared about a conference and prayer journey to be held in April 2016, hosted by Comunidad Cristiana Luz y Vida (Light and Life Christian Community), the same church in Rivas, Spain that hosted the Celebrate Recovery (Celebremos la Recuperación) seminar in October 2014.

I had high hopes of attending those events in April of this year, and reconnecting with Pastor Josh Fajardo and others who attended the CR seminar.  Unfortunately, due to personal obligations, my ministry and writing pursuits were put on hold since the beginning of this year.

It was about this same time that I became aware of a Florida couple, José and Ada Hernández, who, at the invitation of Pastor Josh, accepted the call to a 2-year missionary assignment in Spain.

Later this week, the Hernández’s start their mission and arrive in Spain!

I’ve been following their blog since its inception in January.   I reveled in reading each of their posts about the spiritual climate in locations across Spain:  Madrid, Valencia, Andalucía, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, and more, and about their preparations for their mission.  It gave me hope for spiritual renewal and healing in the country.

Although I am not actively involved in ministry or writing for this season, I am still connected with Spain on an invisible level through prayer.  Hearing of the Hernandez’s mission to Spain felt like answered prayer to me—all of the miles and footsteps I prayer-walked through Spain—tilling the spiritual soil for a harvest.

And then the Lord provided harvesters—not just any harvesters—but harvesters to work with Pastor Josh and the church in Rivas.

What does this have to do with Celebrate Recovery?

I am reminded of the 8th recovery principle:  Yield myself to God to be used to bring Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.

God personally called me to serve on a mission for Celebrate Recovery in Spain—not something I foresaw or would’ve expected.  Celebrate Recovery on the Plateau graciously supported and sponsored the mission.

The Lord abundantly provided donations for the mission.  So much so that there were funds remaining toward a future trip—funds I had hoped to use earlier this year for the prayer conference.

However, the Lord recently reminded me that the Hernández’s missional call was an answer to my prayers.  He wanted the funds released for His Kingdom work in Spain—to pay it forward.  That is truly Good News!

I’m delighted to report that the remaining funds from the 2014 CR mission have been reinvested in the heavenly storehouse for the Hernández’s missional call to Spain.  I want to personally thank everyone who supported the CR mission to Spain, either financially or through prayer.  You can also count yourself as part of this global outreach.

José and Ada head to Spain on September 30.  It is not too late to donate to this cause for Christ in Spain.  One-time donations or monthly support can be sent through this online link.

Additional information about their mission is available on their website, joseandadahernandez.org.

Please join me in continued prayer for spiritual renewal and healing in Spain—for a tilling of the spiritual soil—and for protection, provision, and blessings on these new harvesters in Spain.  And pray for new seeds to take root for Celebrate Recovery in Spain—for a plentiful harvest.

He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Luke 10:2, NIV

Celebrate Recovery: A Hymn of Thanksgiving

Hymn of Thanksgiving

I recently sat down with our Celebrate Recovery (CR) leadership team, men and women who have been engaged in the healing work of CR for several years.  I was curious:

  • What made them come back week after week to serve others in this ministry?
  • What gift had they received from involvement in CR that prompted them to give back?

The Benefits of Recovery

grateful-todaySince the beginning of November I’ve seen little reminders on social media and in blog posts about the benefits of gratitude.  Some people like to post daily lists of gratitude.  Daily devotionals are also starting to point us to an attitude of gratitude in preparation for Thanksgiving.

Those of us in recovery learned about gratitude (Lesson 22) when we reached Read more ›
