The host church for the CR seminar in Rivas.
My mind is flooded with memories of Spain. It’s not just because this week marks the two-year anniversary of the CR mission to Spain. It’s because of a recent development in Spain as a result of the mission. It gets me (Ardis Nelson) all goose-bumpy to share the Good News!
As the one-year anniversary rolled around last year, I wrote a post, CR Mission Update & Partnership Opportunities. In that 2015 post, I shared about a conference and prayer journey to be held in April 2016, hosted by Comunidad Cristiana Luz y Vida (Light and Life Christian Community), the same church in Rivas, Spain that hosted the Celebrate Recovery (Celebremos la Recuperación) seminar in October 2014.
I had high hopes of attending those events in April of this year, and reconnecting with Pastor Josh Fajardo and others who attended the CR seminar. Unfortunately, due to personal obligations, my ministry and writing pursuits were put on hold since the beginning of this year.
It was about this same time that I became aware of a Florida couple, José and Ada Hernández, who, at the invitation of Pastor Josh, accepted the call to a 2-year missionary assignment in Spain.
Later this week, the Hernández’s start their mission and arrive in Spain!
I’ve been following their blog since its inception in January. I reveled in reading each of their posts about the spiritual climate in locations across Spain: Madrid, Valencia, Andalucía, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, and more, and about their preparations for their mission. It gave me hope for spiritual renewal and healing in the country.

Although I am not actively involved in ministry or writing for this season, I am still connected with Spain on an invisible level through prayer. Hearing of the Hernandez’s mission to Spain felt like answered prayer to me—all of the miles and footsteps I prayer-walked through Spain—tilling the spiritual soil for a harvest.
And then the Lord provided harvesters—not just any harvesters—but harvesters to work with Pastor Josh and the church in Rivas.
What does this have to do with Celebrate Recovery?
I am reminded of the 8th recovery principle: Yield myself to God to be used to bring Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
God personally called me to serve on a mission for Celebrate Recovery in Spain—not something I foresaw or would’ve expected. Celebrate Recovery on the Plateau graciously supported and sponsored the mission.
The Lord abundantly provided donations for the mission. So much so that there were funds remaining toward a future trip—funds I had hoped to use earlier this year for the prayer conference.
However, the Lord recently reminded me that the Hernández’s missional call was an answer to my prayers. He wanted the funds released for His Kingdom work in Spain—to pay it forward. That is truly Good News!
I’m delighted to report that the remaining funds from the 2014 CR mission have been reinvested in the heavenly storehouse for the Hernández’s missional call to Spain. I want to personally thank everyone who supported the CR mission to Spain, either financially or through prayer. You can also count yourself as part of this global outreach.

José and Ada head to Spain on September 30. It is not too late to donate to this cause for Christ in Spain. One-time donations or monthly support can be sent through this online link.
Additional information about their mission is available on their website, joseandadahernandez.org.
Please join me in continued prayer for spiritual renewal and healing in Spain—for a tilling of the spiritual soil—and for protection, provision, and blessings on these new harvesters in Spain. And pray for new seeds to take root for Celebrate Recovery in Spain—for a plentiful harvest.
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Luke 10:2, NIV
